The National Educational Library and Museum is funded by the Ministry
of Education to provide the government's information centre for public
education and educational sciences. It is a special library, open
to the public, supplying educational information for the whole country,
including support for the organisational and professional problems
encountered by school libraries and county educational special libraries.
It conducts research in the history of Hungarian education and comparative
educational sciences, is a museum specialising in the history of education,
and publishes books and bibliographies in educational sciences on
a not for profit basis.
Among online information services provided by the OPKM are: Pedagógiai
Adatbázisa, a bibliographic database containing references to
books and collected works from 1989 onwards, foreign language books
in the Library from 1975 onwards and periodical articles from 1988
onwards; Országos Pedagógiai
Könyvtár állományát online katalólogus, the Library’s online public
access catalogue.
