PERINE Quarterly Report: September - December 2003

Short overview on the project’s development on national level

  • During the period indicated, PERINE Catalogue was supplemented with new entries about educational research. Much attention was paid to adding in the reports on scientific research and to including scientific articles into the Catalogue.
  • PERINE partners at Kaunas University of Technology and the University Library participated in ECER 2003 Conference in Hamburg in September 2003. Palmira Juceviciene and Gintare Tautkeviciene delivered a presentation "Academic Library as a Learning Environment: How Do Students Perceive it?"

  • Lithuanian partners participated in the meeting of PERINE partners in Hamburg in 2003.

  • During the period, representation and advertising materials of the PERINE program were produced in the Lithuanian language and distributed to over 300 participants of the International Conference "Lithuanian Higher Education: Diagnoses and Prognoses", which was organized by the Institute of Educational Studies, KTU, and took place in Vilnius and Kaunas on December 11-12, 2003. PERINE Internet Catalogue and its contents were introduced to scholars, researchers, students, and higher education policy makers.

  • Palmira Juceviciene and Gintare Tautkeviciene delivered a presentation "Educational Researchers' Use of Information Services on the Internet: Comparative Analysis of the Research Results" at the conference "Lithuanian Higher Education: Diagnoses and Prognoses" on December 12, 2003.

  • The PERINE Catalogue was being used as a means for information search in Directed Research courses for M.A. studies during the Fall semester, 2003.

  • The PERINE Catalogue was being used as a means for information search in the implementation of projects which had been implemented at the Institute of Educational Studies, KTU. For instance, initial stages of working on the project "Activating citizens' participation in creating a knowledge and learning city by developing innovative culture (ZINOVA)" partially relied on the information generated through the PERINE Catalogue.

  • The PERINE Catalogue and the results of the survey carried out in 2002, "Educational Researchers' Use of Information Services on the Internet", were introduced to library staff in the seminar "Library Under the Conditions of Continuing Learning" which was organized by the Librarians' Continuing Education Center. Seminar participants were encouraged to use the PERINE catalogue in their information search.

 National and European activities

  • A full-text database "Electronic Theses and Dissertations defended at Kaunas University of Technology" was initiated. A trial version of the database was introduced.

  • Following the logics of the database "Electronic Theses and Dissertations defended at Kaunas University of Technology", the Institute of Educational Studies at KTU accelerated the process of putting summaries of doctoral thesis in Educational Science, defended at the Institute of Educational Studies, on the Institute website.

  • Some of the electronic information on the Institute of Educational Studies website, namely, full texts of doctoral dissertations in Educational Science, defended at KTU, as well as the PERINE Catalogue, were being used for learning purposes in Ph.D. studies at KTU.

  • A trial version of the Lithuanian Virtual Library was publicly launched; it provides the possibility for a unified search in the catalogues of all Lithuanian institutions of higher education and in all accessible databases.
